Exam Structure

This is a written exam designed to assess the preparedness of the candidates for intensive training program. Sample questions that give an indication of the depth and breadth of tests can be found by clicking on the link above. This is only a qualifying exam and candidates must successfully pass this exam to qualify for residency training. Subsequent requirements for acceptance into residency training are detailed at the respective websites of the participating authorities. The exam is designed to test the application of knowledge in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions that are prevalent in the United Arab Emirates. It covers main core specialties: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Surgery Public Heatlh, Psychiatry and Radiology.


The format is multiple choice questions (MCQs). There are usually 120 questions to be completed within 3 hours. The difficulty is set at a level of medical knowledge and skills expected of a medical graduate with at least one year post basic medical training and therefore it will be testing clinical application of medical science, clinical diagnosis and management.


The examination is computer based, but pencil and paper format may be offered if circumstances require this medium.
