  1. Is it mandatory to have Emirates ID to appear for the EMSTREX examination?
Yes, as per the regulation set by Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Ministry of Health (MOH) all candidates appearing for the EMSTREX examination should have valid Emirates ID. In fact the results of the examination are directly linked with the Emirates ID in the databases and hence without Emirates ID it is not possible to sit for the examination.
  2. How can GCC nationals appear for the examination, when they have no Emirates ID?
Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has given exemption for GCC nationals to appear for EMSTREX. They can apply for the examination without Emirates ID. GCC nationals, first need to contact DHA authorities and obtain approval and then contact College of Medicine, Examination Board to enroll them for the examination manually as the online process will not work for them.
  3. How many exams are conducted in a year?
The number of exams is decided every year by the three consortium members (HAAD, DHA and MOH). These numbers could change each year depending upon the availability of residency intake and several other factors. But the exam dates will be notified to the public well in advance.
  4. If I registered and enrolled for an examination, is it possible to cancel that examination?
No. As per the UAE University policy we are unable to refund any fees collected towards the registration for the examination.
  5. Is it necessary to pass TOEFL to appear for the EMSTREX examination?
No. There is no requirement of TOEFL to appear for EMSTREX. However, please check the entry requirements of the residency program for HAAD, DHA and MOH who set their own entry requirements which is the next step after passing the examination.
  6. What is the procedure after passing the examination?
Passing the examination is one of the requirements for applying for the residency training programme. The candidates should apply to each individual consortium (HAAD, DHA, MOH) with relevant documents for their residency programs.
  7. How do I enroll for the examination?
First you have to register in our website with all the relevant registration details. After registration once you click the examinations link from the menu, you will be shown the examination which is accepting enrollments with an enroll link next to it. Once you click the enrollment link it will direct you to the online payment system where you can pay for the examination fees. Once the payment is successful, you will be enrolled in the examination automatically and a payment receipt will be generated for you.
  8. How many seats are available for the residency programs?
The total number of seats as well as the seats available in each discipline is not known to the Examination Board of College of Medicine, UAE University. Candidates need to check this with the respective consortium for this.
  9. How many questions are there for the examination and what is the duration of the examination?
There are 120 multiple choice questions (with only one correct answer) which needs to be answered in a session lasting 3 hours. Marks are not deducted for incorrect answers (no negative marking).
  10. How the questions are divided in to different disciplines?
The 120 questions are divided in to the following disciplines Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family Medicine, Psychiatry and Community Medicine. All disciplines have fairly equal distribution except the last 2 disciplines which has less representation compared to others.
  11. For calculating the final result, are all the answers to the 120 questions included?
After each examination, all the responses from all the candidates and the performance of each individual question undergo a standard and systematic psychometric analysis. Poorly performing questions are removed before recalculating the final result to make the examination result more meaningful and fairer to all candidates.
  12. I got the result transcript with the percentage score of individual discipline as well as the total percentage score. But when I average the percentage score of individual disciplines I am not getting the same percentage as the total score. Why is it so?
This is a question of weighting of the questions. The number of questions in each discipline varies and hence you cannot average the individual discipline percentages to get the total percentage. The weighting of each individual question is proportional to the total number of questions in each discipline. The individual discipline percentage is derived by dividing the marks obtained in that discipline by the number of questions in that discipline multiplied by 100. Similarly the total percentage is obtained by the total marks obtained divided by the total number of questions multiplied by 100.
  13. I got the result transcript in pdf format from the website, do I need to come and collect another transcript from the Examination Board office in Al Ain?
The transcript (pdf format) you got from the website is accepted by all the three Health Authorities. There will be no printed transcript provided from Examination Board office of CMHS from academic year 2017 onwards.
